Illustration Friday ONE

Four Thumbnails
This week I was instructed to complete a few thumbnails for the Illustration Friday word of the week. It happened to be family- which inspired me to design the above. The first design is showing a family- Mother, Father and a young girl who seem to be traveling in a cold environment- say somewhere in Calgary. The second design is a Husband and Wife traveling somewhere warm- where I would LOVE to be right about now. The third design is a young family- with two little children under age 5. They seem to be somewhere in Hawaii maybe. The la\st thumbnail is a brand new family- a young married couple who are expecting a child. They are enjoying their last years of "freedom" together in Paris.


Pencil Comp


I decided to go with the top left thumbnail. I thought it had a nice sense of "warmth" even in a cool vacay place! This is my first EVER Wacom Tablet sketch- so be kind! I chose this one also because I liked the way my eye was flowing- I believe this piece sells the price of experience with a family. I would probably keep this piece within relatively cool color tones when actually created for print.

TPS colour comp 2

This is my final adjusted colour comp. Our prof told us we had to incorporate a real-life texture/ photo- so I decided to add an oil paint texture to the overall piece. I played around with having white bricks in the background or I tried having everything look like it was sewn/ outlined- but I really thought it distracted the cleanliness of this little piece. I was happy enough with the subtle change with the oil paint- so that's what I went with :)

Story Board-colour!

This is the second part of my assignment for storyboarding the grim reaper- but with colour! I had lots of fun playing around and using the digital brushes. I believe I was pretty successful at achieving what I wanted- just still getting used to how the layers and digital workspace works. If I could add anything- I would print it out and go ontop with my pencil crayons to make it more crisp!

Colour Story Board!

This is my final coloured Thumbnail! I incorporated hospital colours, added skin tones, added environmental details and realistic colours you would see in a hospital environment. This was a really fun project- and although I'm still struggling a little bit with adjusting to the Wacom tablet- I feel myself getting a little more used to using it! Thank you :)
